Nurturing Courage Programme
Please read below some information we have received about the Nurturing Courage Programme we would be interested in facilitating.
Referral rates to health and care services have been growing over recent years for children experiencing difficulties with anxiety. Uncertainty where to turn for help and issues with waiting lists can make it challenging to access advice and support. The WHSCT multidisciplinary team (MDT) based within Dromore & Trillick GP Practice are working in partnership with local schools to try and provide additional support to parents with children experiencing difficulties with anxiety. We know that this can be a very challenging problem and no parent wants to see their child in distress.
MDT colleagues in the Strabane area, in partnership with Barnardos' Family Support Hub and Family Centre, developed the Nurturing Courage programme to increase parents' understanding of anxiety and support them to respond to their child with supportive strategies that build a child's resilience in response to anxiety. We are keen to offer this fantastic programme in this area.
Nurturing Courage is a 4-session programme. It is completely free of charge. The aims of the programme include:
• Develop parents' understanding of anxiety, what causes it and how it impacts their children.
• Enable parents to reflect on their response to their children.
• Help parents to respond in ways that help and support their children to increase their own resilience and capacity to deal with anxiety and reduce its impact on their lives.
• Support parents to consider their own self care needs.
We are offering to run this programme for parents within local schools. The programme is available to all parents attached to the school (you do not have to be a patient of Dromore & Trillick GP Practice). I hope this programme can be of benefit. Please respond to the school directly through their google form survey to register your interest.
